In today's political climate, it seems that political parties have become more divisive than ever before. Extremism, strained relationships, social media and propaganda along with lack of research are just a few of the negative results of the two party system that has become all too common. In this blog, we will explore these issues in more detail and consider how they impact our society.
Extremism
One of the biggest negative aspects of political parties is extremism. Extreme views can lead to hostility, violence, and even terrorism. In recent years, we have seen a rise in extremism on both sides of the political spectrum. This has led to a deepening divide between individuals with differing opinions, causing harm to relationships among friends, families and communities.
Strained Relationships
These strained relationships are another negative outcome of a two party system. When people hold different political views, it can be challenging to have productive conversations about the issues that matter. Me versus You. Differences in opinion can cause tension and arguments, making it difficult to maintain healthy relationships.
Lack of Expertise
Political parties are also guilty of making decisions on important issues without having the necessary expertise. For example, healthcare laws are often decided upon by politicians without any professional background in healthcare. This lack of expertise can have severe consequences, leading to poorly crafted policies that harm those who need healthcare the most. The lack of research by voters is also causing more harm than good, with many of the policies being written to confuse voters into thinking that their voting for one thing or another. More than 33% of voters get their political information on TV, which can easily be swayed depending on the political party that is financially funding the channel they're watching. This can also be true about various media outlets, which is why it is so important, now more than ever, to do our own research on the policies that are to shape our future.
What Else Are They Deciding?
If political parties are making decisions without the education, research, or knowledge required, what else is being decided without proper expertise? This is a worrying thought, as it suggests that the decisions made by politicians may be ill-informed and potentially harmful to the public. We must hold our elected officials accountable for their decisions and ensure that they have the expertise required to make informed choices.
The Two Party Political System and it's negative affects have made a dire impact to our society.
To overcome these challenges, we must strive for open and respectful communication, encourage education and research, and ensure that the elected officials are held accountable, and that the "two-party" system falls. There shouldn't be only red or blue options when so many of us are purple. Only then can we create a society that is truly representative and works for the betterment of all. Your Voice Matters.
